The Great Debaters

The Great Debaters is a movie that directed by Denzel Washington in 2007. This story is based on a article about Willey College debate team by Tony Scherman for the 1997 spring issue of American Legacy.

This story is begin with Melvin B. Tolson who a teacher at the Willey College that had inspired his students to join the debate team. In this story, it shows about the history about the conflict between black people and white people in America. The climax of this story is when Willey College is able to debate with Harvard University.

In my point of view, this story really gives knowledge to audience especially in debate’s skill. From that story it shown how they build a team from people who did not have a skill in debate can conquer and know the skill of debate well. Then, in this story we can see all the members in the debate team have morale high. When they want to compete with Harvard University, at first their coach Melvin B. Tolson did not follow them to Harvard and make all the members down. But with the high spirit they manage to win the competition.

In conclusion, this story is suitable especially for those who involve in debate. In Critical Literacy subject in help in mock debate for Jack the Ripper cases and for Viva presentation.

Jack The Ripper suspect - Carl Feigenbaum

Based on the casebook of Jack The Ripper, Carl Feigenbaum was arrested in 1894 in New York City for cutting the throat of Mrs. Juliana Hoffman. This case make Carl Feigenbaum listed in one of the suspects of Jack the Ripper cases.

I'm as the defender to Carl Feigenbaum believe that Carl Feigenbaum is not Jack The Ripper. He had no proof that he is Jack the Ripper. It is because within the time of the cases, Carl Feigenbaum was not at the Whitechapel. The cases of the Jack the Ripper between 1888 to 1891. At that time, Carl Feigenbaum had travelled around the US and Europe to find a job.

Next, during the moment of the killer, there was a witness. When Carl Feigenbaum had killed Mrs. Hoffman, victim's son had seen the cases. Carl had killed Hoffman in front of Hoffman son without sympathy. So, from the statement it shown that Carl Feigenbaum not Jack The Ripper because in Jack The Ripper cases there was no witness that seen the cases. In Carl cases there was a witness.

Then, the way Carl Feigenbaum killed Hoffman are totally different from Jack The Ripper. Carl killed Hoffman with cutting her throat while Jack the Ripper killed the victims with cutting throat and mutilate their body. Based on the evidence for Jack the Ripper cases it can assume that the murderer was a doctor. It is because the killer knows all the part of organs inside the body. From the statement from Carl's Lawyer, Carl is a seaman so he did not know any part of organs inside human body.

In the nutshells and based on the evidence above it proof that Carl Feigenbaum is not Jack The Ripper.
